52nd INTERNATIONALES DIXIELAND FESTIVAL opens
The world’s largest and oldest music festival for traditional jazz
An outstanding programme with over 200 hours of live music until Whit Sunday, 19 May 2024 // Tickets remain for some events
The 52nd INTERNATIONALES DIXIELAND FESTIVAL opened today, Sunday, with five events across Dresden. Until 19 May, the world’s largest and oldest traditional jazz festival transforms the beautiful Florence on the Elbe into Dixieland’s capital. Thousands enjoyed compelling music in excellent weather at the eight-day festival’s opening.
The 52nd edition traditionally opened in the morning with Dixieland in Familie at Zoo Dresden. Organisers and media partner Sächsische Zeitung invited families for games, entertainment, excitement, animals and music.
The Frühschoppen at Hotel Ramada by Wyndham Dresden debuted with Czech Brass Band Rakovnik. Dixie am Konzertplatz Weißer Hirsch, Heide-Dixieland at Hofewiese in Langebrück and Dixieland in der Radelbar also provided appropriate introductions.
Today, 12 May, begins eight full days: 38 bands and soloists from ten countries provide around 250 hours in 44 events, almost half (110 hours) free, including Dresdner Jazzmeile (17–19 May) and Dixieland-Parade (19 May).
Dixieland International at Kulturpalast on 18 May promises an outstanding journey: Sweden’s rhythmic Second Line Jazzband, Netherlands’ lively Jazz Connection and Denmark’s compelling Norbert Susemihl’s Joyful Gumbo unite international diversity and talent at the founding venue.
Favourites Jazzclub at Feldschlößchen Stammhaus, Riverboat-Shuffle aboard Weiße Flotte and Open-Air-Gala at Junge Garde are joined by new discoveries.
Dixie meets Barock debuts at Barockgarten Großsedlitz (18 May, 14:00) with Lamarotte Jazzband (Netherlands). Comödie Dresden (17 May, 19:00) welcomes Armstrong’s Ambassadors (Freiburg im Breisgau) and The OhnO! Jazzband (Netherlands). Boulevardtheater’s first Bernd Seiferts Dixie-Sause (17 May, 19:30) features Mama Shakers (France) and Norbert Susemihl‘s Joyful Gumbo (Denmark). Wohnzimmerkonzert at Hoppes Hoftheater, Weißig (15 May, 20:00), features Sunshine Brass (Suhl) and Ulrike Hausmann, adding a new format and venue.
After last year’s successful debut, dance-oriented Dixie-Pub returns to Alter Schlachthof and Elektro meets Dixie on the Dancefloor to Neonworx (Kraftwerk Mitte), with Placebo Flamingo and DJ Ekki. Both celebrate swing dancing’s global revival to live music and deliberately reach younger audiences.
Tickets remain for many ticketed events at the INTERNATIONALES DIXIELAND FESTIVAL 2024, either through advance sales or at the respective daytime and evening box offices. Programme, line-up, tickets and further information are available online at
