Jazzmeile and parade given the go-ahead at the INTERNATIONALES DIXIELAND FESTIVAL 2024
Unanimous decision: Altstadt district council supports organisers with €40,000
On Tuesday evening (5 March 2024), Altstadt’s district advisory council unanimously approved €40,000 for the free Dresdner Jazzmeile and Dixieland-Parade, preventing cancellation of these exceptionally popular, widely renowned events.
“Our sincere thanks for this unanimous decision, a clear commitment to the world’s largest and oldest traditional jazz festival’s best-known, best-attended events and over 50 years of tradition. Jazzmeile and parade can now proceed on a scale comparable with previous years,” says Hendrik Meyer.
To stage the Dresdner Jazzmeile and Dixieland-Parade, organiser Sächsische Festival Vereinigung e.V. now has €40,000 from the Altstadt district advisory council, €31,300 in institutional funding from Dresden’s office for culture and heritage protection, and further assistance from the economic development office. Expected festival ticket revenue will complete the funding.
The Dresdner Jazzmeile and Dixieland-Parade attract as many as more than 400,000 visitors annually from Dresden, Germany and abroad. “For young and old alike, these historic-centre events embody the festival itself. Their importance extends not only to returning and new visitors but also to the international music scene, bringing substantial reputational benefits to Dresden. Securing funding and avoiding the feared cancellation of these two vital free components is a tremendous joy and relief for us,” Meyer continues.
Visitors can expect six outdoor stages from Prager Straße via Dr.-Külz-Ring and Altmarkt’s main stage to Piazza am Taschenberg, operating from
Friday to Sunday. Simultaneous city events require this Whit Sunday’s parade to follow a circuit around Brühlsche Terrasse.
