50th INTERNATIONALES DIXIELAND FESTIVAL cancelled

We were ready, and hundreds of thousands were looking forward to it

Following many major-event cancellations since January, Dresden’s INTERNATIONALES DIXIELAND FESTIVAL has again cancelled its 50th anniversary edition. Current regulations make its uniquely varied programme logistically and financially impossible in May, the organiser reports.
Organisers regret the hesitant approach to tackling the pandemic that caused another cancellation. Preparations were progressing well and on schedule. Predictable, transparent reopening prospects could have enabled a broad May programme, albeit with restrictions.

Almost a year ago the whole festival moved virtually unchanged to May 2021. A similar aim applies now: a fitting 50th anniversary next year, on an appropriate scale and as close as possible to original plans.

The 50th INTERNATIONALES DIXIELAND FESTIVAL now takes place from 15 to 22 May 2022. Initial programme information is planned for late March.
As last year, existing tickets remain valid for the corresponding 2022 event!

Repeated postponement of a golden anniversary saddens visitors, bands, soloists and especially co-founder and artistic director Joachim Schlese. This celebrates not merely a birthday but a lifetime’s work: from foundation to the 50th edition, he developed the world’s oldest and largest jazz festival.

Despite the pandemic:
Under working title Dixieland – wir leben noch, organisers are considering a dedicated festival-week event under government requirements as a gesture to loyal fans. Pandemic measures and associated industry restrictions must first be monitored and incorporated into May planning. No decision is expected before mid-April.

Our thanks

Special thanks in these difficult times go to Feldschlößchen AG, MDR Sachsen, Sächsische Zeitung and all venues and partners for their renewed straightforward support.
